It’s vital that PALS providers can identify respiratory conditions that are treatable with something as simple as suctioning or administering oxygen. When it comes to infants and children, respiratory distress can quickly progress to respiratory failure, which can quickly deteriorate into cardiac arrest. A provider can greatly improve a patient's outcome by identifying and treating respiratory distress and respiratory failure early and prevent a child from deteriorating into cardiac arrest.
